The IRS announced that it has extended the due date for employers to provide 2017 health coverage information to individuals. Insurers, self-insuring employers, and other coverage providers, and applicable large employers now have until March 2, 2018, to provide Forms 1095-B or 1095-C to individuals. This provides an automatic 30-day extension from the original due date of January 31, 2018.

The due dates for filing 2017 information returns with the IRS are not extended. For 2018, the due dates to file information returns with the IRS are: February 28th for paper filers and April 2nd for electronic filers. Individuals may not receive their forms 1095-B or 1095-C by the time they file their 2017 Form 1040. Taxpayers can prepare their return using other information about their health coverage to file their returns. For 2017, the IRS is requiring taxpayers to respond to the question about health coverage. In prior years answering this question was optional.
